COC – Class III Deck Officer (Austrailia)

The certification acquired is world class, in compliance with the requirements of the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) and Standards of Training Certification and Watch keeping for Seafarers (STCW95)starting the career as third officer

Details of the COC Class III Deck course -Programme Structure and Delivery

Programme consists of 3 Phases:

Phase I:
Pre Sea Training: This is a Residential course conducted at AIS, Kochi of 3 months duration which the candidates have to successfully complete.

Phase II:
Shipboard training: This is a ship attached training phase of 18 months duration, with an AMSA(Australian Maritime Safety Authority) approved Distance Learning Program (DLP) provided by iMETA. Training berths can also be provided by AIS on request from students paying the administration fee for Phase II mentioned in the prospectus. The trainees are provided with stipend from their employers during this phase.

Phase III:
This will be a shore based preparatory program of 5 months duration with examination at Hunter-TAFE NSW, prior to appearing before Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) for oral examination for obtaining the Class III deck officers Certificate of Competency (COC Class-III). Upon successful completion of preparatory course at Hunter TAFE, a Diploma in Transport and Distribution will be awarded by Hunter TAFE NSW.

Medium of instruction
The medium of instruction for this training program is English.

Phase I - Program Duration
The Pre Sea Course duration at AIS shall be 3 months and the failed candidates are permitted to appear twice for the examination before redoing the course.

Educational Qualification
• Pass in 10+2 examination from a recognized Board / University with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics (PCM), or Commerce or Biology.

• Pass in a Diploma (equivalent to 10+3) from a recognized Board / University.

• Should have passed with English as a separate subject, at 10+2, 10+3 or in the Degree programme conducted by a recognized Board/University.

Entry Requirements Qualification: Pass in 10+2 or its equivalent / 3 Year Diploma in any Engineering Subject/Graduate Degree in any decipline

AIS offers the training for Phase 1 (PSP) of the above structured program.
This training programme is in collaboration with IMETA and Hunter TAFE with Approval from AMSA.
